4 am shoot on a Monday. Stay up all night or early wake up? I opted for the former as I was assigned to shoot the New England Patriots Beijing fans, who had come to watch a live broadcast of a game opposing their club to the Denver Broncos, in a run-up to the Super Bowl. Most of them had opted for the early wake up as they had a long day of work ahead of them. In this Beijing sports bar, late nighters with little interest for the game but more for their feminine companion, sat along with die-hard football fans, their eyes riveted to the giant video screen. With no prior knowledge of, nor interest in American football, I got caught by the action and found the enthusiasm of those exiled Bostonians contagious. By the time the sun rose, I was sharing the grief of the Patriots fans, but thoroughly enjoyed this little capsule of americana in the heart of Beijing.
